The recent summit between President Trump and President Putin was billed as a step toward peace in Ukraine. Yet, despite claims of 'progress,' the talks failed to yield the immediate ceasefire that millions desperately need. Instead, discussions included controversial proposals such as land swaps and redrawn borders, which risk undermining Ukraine's sovereignty and the self-determination of its people.
Any peace process must be led by Ukrainians and reflect their democratic will. International actors must not impose solutions or make backroom deals that ignore the voices of those most affected by the war. Furthermore, any security guarantees must be robust, transparent, and not used as bargaining chips for unrelated economic or geopolitical interests.
We urge President Trump, the U.S. government, and all negotiating parties to:
Peace in Ukraine is possible, but only if it is just, democratic, and rooted in the rights and agency of those most impacted. Stand with us in demanding a ceasefire and a fair peace process now.
