Goal: We call on the UK Government to implement stronger regulations for fast fashion retailers like Shein to ensure fair labor standards, environmental protections, and a level playing field for all businesses.

Shein's record-breaking profits in the UK come at a significant social and environmental cost. As the fast fashion giant rapidly expands, it leverages customs loopholes, aggressive promotions, and ultra-low prices—often at the expense of workers, the environment, and fair competition.

Shein's UK sales surged to £2.05 billion in 2024, with profits rising by over 56%. While consumers are drawn to low prices, these come at a hidden cost: reports have raised concerns about labor conditions, environmental damage, and unfair advantages over UK-based retailers due to customs duty exemptions.

The current customs policy allows companies like Shein to ship low-value items directly from overseas factories to UK consumers, bypassing tariffs that domestic retailers must pay. This undermines local businesses, encourages overconsumption, and perpetuates exploitative supply chains.

As the Labour Government reviews customs exemptions, now is the time to demand a fair, sustainable, and ethical fashion industry. We urge policymakers to close tax loopholes, enforce living wage standards, and hold fast fashion giants accountable for their environmental impact.
