Target: U.S. Department of Homeland Security, ICE, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and California Congressional Delegation
Goal: We demand an immediate halt to violent, racially-targeted ICE raids in Los Angeles County and call for comprehensive immigration reform that protects, not endangers, our communities.
Roberto Carlos Montoya Valdez came to the United States seeking work and a better life for his family. Instead, he became the latest victim of a climate of fear created by militarized immigration enforcement. On June 20th, Roberto was fatally struck by a vehicle on the 210 Freeway while fleeing an ICE operation at the Monrovia Home Depot. Witnesses confirm that ICE agents attempted to detain him, and the terror of such raids forced him to run for his life.
This tragedy is not an isolated incident. Armed, masked federal agents have been conducting unannounced raids across Southern California, targeting day laborers and immigrant communities, and violating court orders against racial profiling. These operations do not make our communities safer; instead, they instill fear, disrupt families, and have now cost a man his life.
We join the hundreds who have mourned Roberto and demand accountability and change. No one should have to risk death simply for seeking work. We call on local, state, and federal officials to end these deadly raids and pursue humane, just immigration policies.
