Recent meetings between Indian Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra and US Senators Mark Warner, Chris Van Hollen, and Richard Blumenthal reaffirmed the importance of a trade partnership grounded in mutual respect and fairness.
However, the recent announcement of sweeping and substantial tariffs on Indian goods by the US administration threatens to undermine this partnership. These tariffs, imposed as a punitive measure for India's energy trade decisions, will increase costs for working families, disrupt supply chains, and risk escalating a trade war that benefits only multinational corporations and special interests.
We call on US lawmakers and the administration to reverse these harmful tariffs and instead prioritize a trade agenda that supports workers' rights, environmental protection, and economic justice for all.
