Target: President Donald Trump, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the U.S. Department of State
Goal: Ensure that all negotiations between the U.S. and Russia regarding Ukraine are transparent, accountable, and include the perspectives of Ukrainian civil society and international human rights organizations.
On Friday, President Trump and President Putin met in Alaska to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine. Despite claims of 'progress,' neither leader provided any details about the nature of their agreements or the remaining obstacles to peace. The lack of transparency and public accountability in these high-stakes negotiations is unacceptable, especially when millions of lives are at risk.
We believe that any discussions about peace in Ukraine must center the voices of those most affected: Ukrainian civilians, refugees, and civil society organizations. Secretive negotiations behind closed doors undermine democratic values and risk sidelining human rights and justice for victims of war.
We call on the U.S. government to ensure that all future negotiations are transparent, inclusive, and uphold the rights and dignity of all people impacted by the conflict.
