Target: President of the United States, U.S. Congress, U.S. Department of State
Goal: We urge U.S. leaders to reject any peace deal that cements Russian occupation of Ukrainian land and instead support a just and lasting peace based on Ukraine's sovereignty and the rule of law.
The ongoing war in Ukraine has resulted in immense human suffering, displacement, and the destruction of communities. Proposals for an armistice modeled after the Korean War, as recently advocated by former Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert Wilkie, would freeze the conflict and leave large portions of Ukraine under foreign occupation. This would set a dangerous precedent, encouraging future acts of aggression by signaling that might makes right.
We believe that any peace process must be rooted in respect for Ukraine's territorial integrity and the democratic will of its people. A true and lasting peace cannot be achieved by rewarding the illegal use of force or ignoring the voices of those most affected by the war.
We call on U.S. policymakers to stand with the people of Ukraine and to work towards a peace settlement that upholds international law, human rights, and the principles of self-determination.
