Demand Transparent and Accountable US-Russia Diplomacy for Peace and Justice

The recent Alaska summit between President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump marks a potential thaw in US-Russia relations. Their stated intention to move from confrontation to dialogue, especially regarding Ukraine, could be a positive development. However, history shows that high-level negotiations too often ignore the needs and rights of ordinary people, especially those suffering from war, displacement, and economic hardship.

True progress requires more than strategic cooperation in trade, energy, and technology. It demands a commitment to peace, human rights, and democratic accountability. We urge US leaders to ensure that any agreements or collaborations with Russia are transparent, uphold international law, and include the perspectives of civil society, marginalized communities, and those directly affected by conflict.

We, the undersigned, demand a foreign policy that puts people and peace first. Diplomatic engagement should not come at the expense of justice or human dignity.
