Target: US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and their respective summit delegations
Goal: We call on the US and Russian governments to ensure transparency, uphold human rights, and prioritize peace and democracy in all summit negotiations and outcomes.
The high-profile summit in Alaska between the US and Russian presidents comes at a time of global tension, particularly regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and strained US-Russia relations. The decision of the two leaders to ride together and converse privately, without interpreters or public record, highlights the need for greater transparency and public accountability in international diplomacy.
Secretive negotiations and personal rapport between heads of state must not override the interests of the global community, especially when issues of war, peace, and human rights are at stake. We urge both governments to make summit proceedings and agreements public, to center the voices of those affected by conflict, and to commit to upholding international law and democratic norms.
