As President Trump and President Putin meet in Alaska, the United States has chosen to greet this high-stakes diplomatic encounter with a show of military force, including B-2 stealth bombers and over 100 fifth-generation fighter jets. Such actions risk escalating tensions with Russia and undermine the prospects for meaningful dialogue, especially regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Instead of investing in displays of military dominance, the U.S. should demonstrate leadership by fostering open, transparent, and peaceful negotiations.
