Goal: Urge the Department of Justice to drop its lawsuit and allow California to enforce strong truck emissions standards that protect our communities and environment.
California has long been a leader in setting strong environmental protections, especially when it comes to regulating air pollution from vehicles. The California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) Clean Truck Partnership aims to phase out polluting internal-combustion engines in heavy-duty trucks by 2036, a critical step in reducing toxic emissions and addressing the climate emergency.
Now, the Department of Justice—backed by powerful truck manufacturers—is suing to block these life-saving standards. This lawsuit threatens to undermine California’s right to protect its residents from air pollution, disproportionately harming low-income communities and communities of color who live near freight corridors and suffer the worst health impacts.
We cannot allow corporate interests and federal overreach to strip states of their ability to lead on clean air. We call on the DOJ to drop this lawsuit and respect California’s authority to set strong emissions standards for trucks. Clean air is a human right, and every state should have the power to protect its people and environment.
