We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned by the apparent disparities in the treatment of missing persons cases in Sarasota County. As highlighted in recent letters to the editor, the family of Giovanni Pelletier has received little assistance from local officials following his suspicious disappearance and death. This lack of action stands in stark contrast to the overwhelming response often seen when victims are white, blonde, and female.
No family should be denied the support and resources they need to find their loved ones or seek justice, regardless of their background. We call on Sarasota County authorities to commit to transparency, accountability, and equity in handling all missing persons cases.
We urge you to:
