Despite being wanted for war crimes in countries recognizing the International Criminal Court, Putin was welcomed with a red carpet and military display, while questions about civilian deaths in Ukraine were met with indifference.
The United States has a responsibility to uphold international law and human rights. Allowing a leader accused of war crimes to be hosted without accountability sends a dangerous message and undermines global efforts for justice. We call on US leaders to take a stand for civilian protection and to ensure that any negotiations with Russia are grounded in respect for human rights and international law.
