Target: Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), U.S. Congress
Goal: We urge federal agencies and lawmakers to strengthen data breach protections, ensure transparency, and prioritize public safety in all cybersecurity policies.
The recent approval of the FCC's data breach rules by a federal appeals court is a step forward, but more must be done to protect the public from escalating cybersecurity threats. Executive orders signed in recent years have shifted the focus of U.S. cybersecurity policy, often without sufficient public input or oversight. As government agencies in the U.S. and abroad recognize the growing risks to operational technology and critical infrastructure, it is clear that stronger, more democratic protections are urgently needed.
We call on federal agencies and lawmakers to put the safety and privacy of people first. This means not only enforcing robust data breach notification requirements, but also ensuring that all cybersecurity policies are transparent, equitable, and accountable to the public. Our critical infrastructure and personal data should not be left vulnerable to attacks or exploited for profit.
