Target: U.S. Congress, State Legislatures, and Governors
Goal: We call on Congress and state legislatures to halt partisan redistricting, defend independent redistricting commissions, and ensure that congressional maps are drawn fairly and transparently to reflect the will of the people—not the interests of political
Recent efforts by Texas and other states to redraw congressional maps outside of the regular census cycle represent a dangerous escalation in partisan gerrymandering. These actions are designed to entrench one party's power at the expense of fair representation, disenfranchising millions of voters and eroding public trust in our electoral system.
Independent redistricting commissions, established in states like California and New York, are being threatened by moves to bypass or undermine their authority. Meanwhile, other states are considering retaliatory or preemptive redistricting, creating a vicious cycle of partisan manipulation that destabilizes our democracy.
We demand urgent action to protect the principle of 'one person, one vote.' Congressional districts must be drawn transparently, based on nonpartisan criteria, and with robust public input. Partisan gerrymandering has no place in a healthy democracy. We urge lawmakers at all levels to defend fair maps and end the practice of manipulating district lines for political gain.
