Goal: We call for an immediate investigation into the unnecessary use of force and political grandstanding in the arrest of Sean Charles Dunn, and demand protections for D.C. residents against federal overreach and intimidation.
The White House recently released a highly produced video showing a militarized SWAT team raiding the home of Sean Charles Dunn, a former DOJ employee, for allegedly throwing a sandwich at a federal officer. Despite already being apprehended and released, Dunn was subjected to a second, heavily armed arrest, which was then used as political propaganda.
This excessive show of force comes after President Trump invoked rarely used powers to seize control of D.C.'s police and deploy National Guard troops, actions widely condemned by local leaders, civil rights groups, and LGBTQ+ organizations. These moves stoke fear and intimidation, especially among D.C.'s LGBTQ+ residents and other marginalized communities, despite the city experiencing its lowest violent crime rate in 30 years.
We demand an end to the use of militarized police tactics for political theater, transparency in federal law enforcement actions, and respect for the civil rights of all D.C. residents. The use of state power to intimidate and silence dissent is unacceptable in a democracy.
