Target: U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, California Congressional Delegation
Goal: Demand an immediate halt to politically motivated immigration raids and the misuse of federal enforcement agencies to intimidate communities and suppress democratic participation.
On June 13th, as Governor Gavin Newsom announced the Election Rigging Response Act in Little Tokyo, dozens of CBP agents descended on the Japanese American National Museum, detaining at least four people and intimidating the community. Videos and eyewitness accounts confirm that this was a coordinated show of force, not a routine patrol. This action mirrors a disturbing pattern: the Trump administration's use of federal agencies to suppress opposition and stoke fear among immigrants and advocates.
The timing and location—outside a museum dedicated to the memory of Japanese American incarceration during WWII—underscore the dangerous echoes of past injustices. We cannot allow our communities to be targeted and silenced for political gain. The militarization of immigration enforcement, especially at moments of civic engagement, is a direct threat to democracy and civil rights.
We call on the Department of Homeland Security and CBP to immediately cease politically motivated raids and for Congress to investigate and defund the use of federal agencies for political intimidation. We stand with immigrant communities, demand accountability, and insist on the protection of our democratic rights.
