Target: U.S. Congress and the President
Goal: Urge Congress and the Administration to end harmful tariffs, protect American jobs, and ensure affordable prices for essentials.
Despite a modest increase in retail sales, the latest data from the Commerce Department and the Labor Department reveal a troubling trend: tariffs are driving up prices and slowing job growth. While some sectors like auto sales and online retail show short-term gains, these are overshadowed by the long-term impacts of trade policies that hurt working people.
Major retailers and manufacturers are raising prices on everyday goods, from bananas to car seats, directly impacting families' budgets. At the same time, job growth is falling far short of expectations, with only 73,000 jobs added last month—well below what our communities need. These tariffs are not just numbers on a spreadsheet; they represent real hardship for millions of Americans.
It is unacceptable for corporations to pass the cost of tariffs onto consumers while workers face layoffs and stagnant wages. We call on Congress and the Administration to immediately end harmful tariffs, protect jobs, and take action to keep essential goods affordable for all.
