Target: U.S. Congress, President of the United States, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau leadership
Goal: We call on Congress and the administration to immediately halt all efforts to downsize, defund, or dismantle the CFPB, and to restore its full capacity to protect consumers.
The CFPB has served as a critical watchdog for consumers, ensuring that big banks and financial institutions are held accountable. Recent actions by the administration—including canceling the agency's lease, firing or planning to cut more than 80% of its workforce, and pausing its vital work—threaten to gut the agency and leave consumers vulnerable.
This move comes despite a trial judge's attempt to block the near-shuttering of the agency, and a divided appeals court ruling that sidesteps the real harm being done to workers and the public. If these cuts go forward, it will be nearly impossible for the CFPB to recover and continue its mission.
We cannot allow powerful interests to dismantle one of the few agencies dedicated to protecting ordinary people from financial abuse. We demand immediate action to restore the CFPB and defend the rights of consumers everywhere.
