The justification of a 'crime emergency' is not supported by available data, and such a move sets a dangerous precedent for federal overreach into local affairs. The people of DC, who already lack full representation in Congress, must not be further disenfranchised by having their police department commandeered by federal authorities. This is not just a DC issue—it is a matter of democracy and civil rights for all Americans.
We stand with Attorney General Brian Schwalb and urge the courts, Congress, and all relevant officials to act swiftly to restore local control and reject this brazen usurpation of DC's authority.
