Demand Transparent, Inclusive Diplomacy: No Backroom Deals on Ukraine’s Future

Target: President Donald Trump, U.S. State Department, and Congressional Foreign Affairs Committees

Goal: Ensure that any negotiations about Ukraine's future are transparent, include Ukrainian leadership, and uphold international law and human rights.

As President Trump and President Putin meet in Alaska to discuss the future of Ukraine and European security, the voices and interests of Ukrainians are being sidelined. We call for open, transparent diplomacy that centers the people most affected by war and rejects secretive agreements that undermine democracy and self-determination.

The upcoming summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska threatens to shape the outcome of the Russia-Ukraine war without input from the Ukrainian people or their democratically elected government. Excluding President Volodymyr Zelenskyy from these talks risks legitimizing Russia's aggression and undermining Ukraine's sovereignty.

Backroom deals made without transparency or accountability have no place in international diplomacy, especially when the stakes include the lives and rights of millions. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has already caused immense suffering, displacement, and loss of life. Any agreement reached without Ukrainian participation is not only unjust but also unsustainable.

We demand that the U.S. government commit to transparent negotiations, center Ukrainian voices, and uphold international law. The future of Ukraine must not be decided behind closed doors or traded away for political gain.
