With a summit between President Trump and President Putin taking place in Anchorage, we must ensure that Alaskan and American values are not compromised by political deals that reward aggression or silence victims.

As pro-Ukrainian protesters gather in Anchorage, Alaska, ahead of the Trump-Putin summit, we are reminded of the urgent need to stand against tyranny and uphold the rights of those suffering from war and occupation. The decision to host Vladimir Putin—a leader responsible for war crimes, including the kidnapping of over 20,000 Ukrainian children—on Alaskan soil is a betrayal of our shared values and history.
