Stop Unjustified Tariffs and Promote Diplomacy for Peace in Ukraine

The US administration has recently imposed a 25% import tax on Indian goods, citing India's continued purchase of Russian oil and alleged re-export for profit. These secondary sanctions are not only economically harmful to ordinary people in both countries, but also undermine international cooperation and the prospects for a peaceful end to the war in Ukraine.

Rather than resorting to punitive trade measures that disproportionately affect workers and families, the US should invest in robust diplomatic initiatives and multilateral dialogue. Sanctions and tariffs have not stopped the violence in Ukraine, nor have they effectively pressured Russia to change course. Instead, they risk deepening global divisions and economic hardship.

We urge the US government to immediately end these unjustified tariffs on India, refrain from further secondary sanctions, and focus on constructive, peaceful solutions to the conflict in Ukraine. True leadership means prioritizing diplomacy over economic warfare.
