Defend Democracy: Support Fair Redistricting in California to Counter Partisan Power Grabs

Recent efforts in Texas to redraw congressional districts are a blatant attempt to manipulate the political map and secure a Republican majority in the US House of Representatives. President Donald Trump and Texas Governor Greg Abbott are pushing for a redistricting plan that would flip five Democratic seats, undermining the will of voters and threatening the integrity of our democracy.

In response, Governor Gavin Newsom has proposed a bold plan to create five new Democratic congressional seats in California, offsetting the partisan maneuvering in Texas. This plan will be put to a special ballot on November 4th, but it requires the support of the California State Legislature to move forward.

We cannot allow anti-democratic tactics to go unchallenged. The presence of armed federal agents at Newsom's rally highlights the lengths to which some will go to intimidate and suppress democratic participation. Now is the time for Californians to stand up for fair representation, the rule of law, and the fundamental principles of democracy.
