Target: Irish Government, European Union Trade Officials, United States Trade Representative
Goal: We call on the Irish government and EU leaders to urgently defend Irish jobs and communities by demanding the immediate removal of punitive US tariffs, ensuring fair and sustainable trade relations.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office reveal a sharp decline in Irish exports to the United States, with a staggering €1.3bn drop compared to last year. Chemicals, manufactured goods, and machinery—sectors that provide thousands of decent jobs—have been hit hardest. These losses are directly linked to new US tariffs and the uncertainty created by ongoing trade disputes.
While multinational corporations may weather these changes, it is workers, families, and local communities who suffer most. The imposition of tariffs and the threat of further trade barriers undermine Ireland's ability to provide stable employment and invest in public services. We cannot allow international trade policy to be dictated by corporate interests or political brinkmanship at the expense of ordinary people.
We urge Irish and EU leaders to stand up for our communities by demanding an end to these punitive tariffs and prioritizing fair, people-centered trade policies. We also call for transparency and democratic oversight in all trade negotiations to ensure that the voices of workers, small businesses, and civil society are heard.
