Target: President Donald Trump, US State Department, and Congressional Foreign Affairs Committees
Goal: To urge President Trump and the US government to commit to transparent, inclusive peace negotiations that center Ukrainian voices, uphold international law, and reject any territorial concessions without the consent of those affected.
The upcoming summit between President Trump and President Putin in Alaska is a pivotal moment for Ukraine, Europe, and the world. While the prospect of peace is welcome, we are deeply concerned that backroom deals or 'symbolic concessions' could compromise the rights and safety of millions of Ukrainians living under occupation.
History has shown the dangers of secretive agreements made without the participation of those most affected. We cannot allow the residents of occupied territories to be forgotten or used as bargaining chips. Any peace process must be transparent, inclusive, and respect the principles of self-determination and international law.
We call on President Trump and all US negotiators to:
- Reject any territorial swaps or compromises made without the explicit consent and participation of Ukrainian representatives and affected communities.
- Ensure that any ceasefire or peace agreement upholds Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
- Include Ukrainian civil society and international human rights observers in all stages of negotiation.
- Maintain sanctions on Russia until there is verifiable progress on withdrawal from occupied territories and respect for human rights.
The world is watching. We demand a peace process that values people over politics and justice over expediency.
