Goal: To halt the illegal use of military forces against civilians, defend democratic institutions, and demand accountability from those violating constitutional protections.
The deployment of military troops in American cities under the guise of a 'crime emergency' is a direct violation of the Posse Comitatus Act, which forbids the use of the Army or Air Force for domestic law enforcement without explicit Congressional authorization. Military personnel are not trained for civilian policing and their presence escalates tensions, threatens civil rights, and undermines the foundations of our democracy.
Instead of addressing the root causes of crime—poverty, unemployment, lack of education, addiction, homelessness, and environmental hazards—the administration is using armed force to intimidate protesters and suppress dissent. This is a classic tactic of authoritarian regimes, and it is being normalized before our eyes. The targeting of elected officials, the media, and marginalized communities is a warning sign that our democratic institutions are under attack.
We call on Congress, the Department of Justice, and state leaders to immediately end the militarization of our streets, hold those responsible for illegal deployments accountable, and invest in real solutions that address the needs of our communities. Our democracy depends on it.
