On the heels of the new executive order establishing the White House Task Force on the 2028 Summer Olympics, alarming statements have been made that threaten the participation and safety of transgender athletes. The Task Force is granted broad authority over visa processing and credentialing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media. During the press conference, the President refused to rule out criminal prosecution of transgender athletes who participate in women's sports.
This rhetoric and potential policy set a dangerous precedent, undermining the principles of inclusion, fairness, and human rights that the Olympic Games are meant to represent. Such actions would not only harm transgender athletes but also tarnish the reputation of the United States as a leader in equality and justice.
