Goal: We call on Congress and federal oversight bodies to immediately halt the politicization of science, restore environmental protections, and ensure that federal agencies operate transparently and independently, free from corporate and political interference
The United States is facing a crisis of governance and scientific integrity. Federal agencies once trusted to provide objective oversight and data are being reshaped to serve private and political interests. The Trump administration has:
- Rolled back dozens of environmental regulations, including limits on emissions, coal ash disposal, and wetland protections.
- Suppressed and misrepresented climate science, removing key climate assessments from public access.
- Centralized power by firing scientific advisory panels and dispensing with public comment periods.
- Installed industry-friendly figures with deep ties to fossil fuel interests in key regulatory positions.
- Allowed massive corporate influence over environmental policy, granting billions in tax breaks and incentives to polluting industries.
These actions echo the dangers of past regimes that dismissed scientific evidence, leading to catastrophic consequences for people and the planet. The erosion of democratic norms and the rise of autocratic governance threaten not only our environment but the very fabric of our society.
We demand immediate action to restore scientific integrity, protect our environment, and defend our democracy from further erosion. Our future depends on it.
