Target: U.S. Congress, House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure
Goal: Urge Congress to pass the HOV Lane Exemption Reauthorization Act and extend HOV lane access for electric and alternative fuel vehicles through 2031.
Electric and alternative fuel vehicles are vital to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, and achieving a sustainable future. The HOV Lane Exemption programme has played a crucial role in incentivising drivers to switch to cleaner vehicles by allowing single-occupancy EVs and alternative fuel vehicles to use HOV lanes. This not only encourages the adoption of clean vehicles, but also helps ease congestion for everyone on the road.
If Congress does not act, this successful programme will expire in 2025, rolling back progress on clean transportation and climate action. With the federal government recently eliminating other EV incentives, it is more important than ever to preserve and strengthen existing policies that support clean transportation. We call on lawmakers to pass the HOV Lane Exemption Reauthorization Act, extending these critical incentives through 2031 and ensuring a cleaner, healthier future for all.
We cannot afford to lose momentum in the fight against climate change. Extending HOV lane access for clean vehicles is a proven, common-sense policy that benefits drivers, communities, and the planet.
