China’s economy is facing significant challenges, with factory output, retail sales, and investment all slowing sharply in recent months. The trade war with the United States and extreme weather events have further destabilized livelihoods, while unemployment has risen and borrowing has contracted. These pressures threaten to deepen inequality and undermine the social fabric.
While the government has announced some measures to subsidize consumer loans and reduce education costs, much more is needed to protect workers, families, and marginalized groups from the fallout.
