Goal: We call on Congress and all relevant oversight bodies to investigate and halt the implementation of patriarchal and exclusionary policies in the Department of Defense, and to reaffirm the military's commitment to diversity, equity, and democratic values.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has used his position to promote a narrow, patriarchal, and Christian nationalist agenda, aligning with extremist leaders who openly advocate for the repeal of women's voting rights and the subjugation of women. Under his leadership, the Pentagon has seen the dismissal of high-ranking women and people of color, and the rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives that are essential for a just and effective military.
Hegseth's public endorsements of theocratic and patriarchal ideologies, combined with his record of personal misconduct and efforts to reshape the military in his own image, pose a grave threat to the rights of women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and all marginalized groups. These actions undermine the military's integrity and threaten to transform it into a tool for partisan and authoritarian interests, rather than a defender of the Constitution and the people.
We demand immediate action to stop the erosion of democratic norms and to ensure that the U.S. military remains an institution that values diversity, protects civil rights, and serves all Americans equally.
