Target: United States Congress, State Legislatures, and Governors

Goal: We call on Congress and state legislatures to ban partisan gerrymandering and establish independent redistricting commissions to ensure fair, competitive, and representative elections for all Americans.

Gerrymandering has become a grave threat to the foundation of American democracy, undermining the principle that voters should choose their representatives—not the other way around. Across the country, both major parties have engaged in drawing district lines for partisan advantage, eroding trust in our electoral system and silencing millions of voices.

Recent events in states like Texas, Illinois, and California have made it clear: gerrymandering is being weaponized to entrench political power and diminish the influence of voters. The Supreme Court's 2019 decision in Rucho v. Common Cause left the responsibility for ending partisan gerrymandering in the hands of elected officials, but too many have used this as an excuse to continue the practice.

When politicians manipulate district boundaries for partisan gain, democracy suffers. Voters lose faith in the system, communities are divided, and elections become less competitive. This is not a problem for one party or another—it's a crisis for our entire democracy.

We demand immediate action to ban partisan gerrymandering nationwide. Independent redistricting commissions, transparent map-drawing processes, and clear, enforceable standards are necessary to restore fairness and trust in our elections. It's time to put voters first and ensure that every voice counts equally.
