Target: Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and Acting Director Russell Vought
Goal: We demand the immediate restoration of consumer restitution funds and a return to robust enforcement of corporate accountability at the CFPB.
Recent investigations have uncovered that over $360 million in restitution owed to American consumers is in jeopardy due to actions taken by the CFPB under the Trump administration. Settled enforcement cases have been terminated or modified, eliminating corporate obligations to compensate victims of financial misconduct. This includes the rescinding of over $120 million in compensation and the cancellation of redress orders against major corporations like Navy Federal Credit Union, Toyota Motor Credit, and Navient.
These actions not only deny justice to consumers harmed by illegal practices, but also set a dangerous precedent by pardoning repeat corporate offenders. The lack of transparency, including the CFPB's failure to publish quarterly financial reports, further erodes public trust and accountability.
We call on the CFPB to immediately restore all rescinded restitution, enforce existing settlements, and recommit to its mission of protecting consumers from financial abuses. Americans deserve a financial watchdog that stands up for them, not for corporate interests.
