Demand Accountability and Transparency in U.S.-Russia Alaska Summit: No Backroom Deals on Ukraine or Alaska's Resources

Target: President Donald Trump, U.S. Congress, and the U.S. State Department
Goal: Ensure that the U.S.-Russia summit in Alaska does not result in concessions that harm Ukraine’s territorial integrity, weaken U.S.-European alliances, or open Alaska’s lands and resources to exploitation without public consent.
As President Trump prepares to meet President Putin in Alaska, we are deeply concerned about reports of potential backroom deals that could undermine Ukrainian sovereignty and risk Alaska’s environment and Indigenous rights. Americans must demand full transparency and a principled approach to foreign policy.
The upcoming summit between President Trump and President Putin in Alaska carries enormous stakes for the future of Ukraine, U.S.-European relations, and Alaska’s people and environment. Reports suggest the administration may offer access to Alaska’s mineral-rich lands or relax aviation sanctions in exchange for a deal on Ukraine—moves that would betray both the Ukrainian people and Alaskans.
Ukrainian President Zelensky and European allies have made clear that any peace process must include Ukraine and must not reward territorial aggression. Furthermore, Alaska’s lands and resources are not bargaining chips for international negotiations. Indigenous communities, environmental advocates, and all Americans deserve a say in decisions that affect their future.
We call on President Trump and the U.S. government to:
- Reject any deal that cedes Ukrainian territory or undermines Ukraine’s sovereignty.
- Refuse to offer Alaska’s resources or land access to foreign powers without public consultation and consent from Indigenous communities.
- Maintain strong alliances with Europe and uphold sanctions on Russia until a just and lasting peace is achieved.
- Ensure all negotiations are transparent and include input from Congress, allies, and affected communities.
America must stand for democracy, self-determination, and environmental protection—not secretive deals that benefit autocrats and corporations at the expense of people and the planet.
Key Demands
- Reject any agreement that legitimizes Russian occupation or annexation of Ukrainian territory, including Crimea and Donbas.
- Do not offer Alaska’s mineral resources or land access to Russia or any foreign power without transparent public debate and free, prior, and informed consent from Indigenous communities.
- Maintain and strengthen U.S. and European sanctions on Russia until a comprehensive, just peace is reached with Ukraine’s full participation.
- Ensure all summit negotiations are fully transparent, with regular public updates and Congressional oversight.
- Guarantee that any peace process includes Ukraine as a primary stakeholder and respects its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
