Target: US Department of State, Secretary of State, US Congress
Goal: Reverse US sanctions and visa restrictions against officials and programs involved in international medical cooperation, and respect the sovereignty of nations providing healthcare solidarity.
The recent US sanctions and visa revocations against Brazilian, African, Caribbean, and Cuban officials—specifically targeting those involved in Cuba's Mais Medicos ('More Doctors') program—represent an attack on international healthcare solidarity. For decades, Cuba has sent tens of thousands of doctors to underserved regions worldwide, providing essential medical services where they are most needed. These missions have saved countless lives and supported public health systems in developing countries.
By sanctioning officials and restricting visas, the US government is not only punishing those who facilitate medical cooperation, but also threatening the health and wellbeing of vulnerable populations. Such measures further isolate Cuba, already suffering under decades of economic embargo, and undermine the principle of international solidarity in healthcare.
We call on the US government to immediately reverse these sanctions and visa restrictions, respect the sovereignty of nations engaging in medical cooperation, and support rather than hinder global efforts to ensure healthcare for all.
