The upcoming Alaska summit between US and Russian leaders threatens to sideline Ukraine and Europe from crucial decisions about their own future. We must ensure that peace negotiations are transparent, inclusive, and respect the sovereignty of all affected nations.

The announced Alaska summit between US and Russian leaders is being framed as a historic opportunity to reshape the Ukraine war. However, the exclusion of Ukrainian and European voices from these talks is deeply concerning. Decisions about Ukraine should not be made without Ukraine at the table. The future of Europe and the principles of national sovereignty and self-determination are at stake. We urge US officials to reject any backroom deals that undermine Ukraine’s right to self-determination and to ensure that any peace process is transparent, inclusive, and grounded in international law.

We call on Congress, the State Department, and the White House to commit to these principles and to make clear that the fate of Ukraine cannot be decided without the meaningful participation of Ukrainians and their European partners.
