Target: President of the United States, U.S. Department of Defense, and District of Columbia officials
Goal: We call for the immediate withdrawal of National Guard troops from Washington, D.C., and an end to the militarization of our communities. We demand respect for local governance, transparency in policing, and the protection of civil rights for all resident
The deployment of National Guard personnel to Washington, D.C. under the pretext of a 'crime crackdown' is deeply concerning. Crime rates in the District have declined significantly, contradicting the narrative used to justify this show of force. The presence of armed troops on our streets does not make our communities safer; instead, it intimidates residents, suppresses peaceful dissent, and erodes trust in public institutions.
This action follows recent federal interventions in Los Angeles and comes with threats of further militarization. Such measures bypass local leadership and ignore the will of D.C.'s residents, who overwhelmingly oppose federal overreach. The use of military personnel for policing tasks is inappropriate and risks unnecessary escalation and harm.
We stand with the people of Washington, D.C. in demanding the immediate withdrawal of National Guard troops and the restoration of civilian control over public safety. Our communities deserve investment in social services, housing, and education—not military occupation.
