Protect Indian Farmers and Workers: Reject Unfair US Tariffs and Defend Livelihoods

Related Article: "Standing Like a Wall for Farmers": PM Modi on Trump's Tariff Blow - pratidintime.com - Friday, August 15, 2025, 12:37:42 AM Eastern Daylight Time

Target: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India

Goal: Urge the Government of India to reject any trade agreement that compromises the rights and livelihoods of Indian farmers, dairy workers, and small producers, and to demand the immediate removal of punitive US tariffs.

Recent US-imposed tariffs threaten the livelihoods of millions of Indian farmers, dairy workers, and small producers. As trade negotiations continue, it is crucial that the Indian government stands firm in defending the interests of those who feed our nation and sustain our rural economies.

The livelihoods of India's farmers, dairy workers, fishermen, and small producers are under threat due to the recent imposition of a 25% tariff on Indian goods by the United States. These tariffs, described as a 'penalty' for India's sovereign economic decisions, have the potential to devastate rural economies, undermine food security, and force vulnerable communities into deeper poverty.

While the government has pledged to 'stand like a wall' against policies that harm farmers, ongoing trade negotiations with the US risk opening up our agricultural and dairy markets to foreign competition, putting millions at risk. The US demands for market access serve corporate interests at the expense of Indian livelihoods and food sovereignty.

We call on the Government of India to reject any trade deal that compromises our farmers and workers, and to demand the immediate reversal of unjust tariffs. The voices of farmers, dairy workers, and rural communities must be at the center of all trade policy decisions. India's economic future depends on protecting those who feed and sustain us.
