Protect Fair Representation: Support California's Pushback Against Partisan Gerrymandering

Across the United States, redistricting is being used as a tool to entrench partisan power, often at the expense of fair representation for all communities. In Texas, proposed House maps could hand one party five new seats, further skewing the balance of power in Congress. In response, California is preparing to release new congressional maps that would help restore balance and ensure that the voices of millions are not silenced.

We stand at a crossroads. If partisan gerrymandering continues unchecked, it threatens the foundation of our democracy. California's proposed maps are a necessary response to the aggressive redistricting tactics seen in Texas and elsewhere. These maps are designed to protect the principle of 'one person, one vote' and to encourage other states to stand up for fair representation.

We call on the California Legislature to approve these maps and for other states to join in defending democracy. We must also demand a return to independent, nonpartisan redistricting commissions after this emergency measure, ensuring transparency and accountability in the future.
