Target: U.S. Congress, Social Security Administration, Department of Labor, and Federal Agency Leadership
Goal: We call on federal policymakers and agency leaders to halt all efforts toward privatizing Social Security, protect union rights for federal workers, and guarantee robust staffing to serve the public.
Social Security is a cornerstone of economic security for millions of Americans. On its 90th anniversary, federal workers, retirees, and union members came together to oppose dangerous attempts to privatize Social Security and undermine the rights of public sector employees. Layoffs, outsourcing, and union busting threaten the ability of Social Security offices to provide essential services, especially to the most vulnerable.
We are alarmed by calls in the media and from some policymakers to contract out critical government functions to private interests, which would put profits over people. The voices of AFGE 3172 members and the Federal Unionist Network remind us that strong unions and well-funded public services are essential to a fair and just society.
We demand immediate action to protect Social Security from privatization, defend the rights of unionized federal workers, and ensure that public services remain accessible and accountable to all.
